Behavioral Support Services

Positive behavior support staff

The Office of Diagnostic, Behavioral, and Health Services provides a variety of support services to students with and without disabilities. The services offered through this department include:

  • Psycho-educational/Psychological Services, including preschool and school-age assessments-  Within the Diagnostic Services Department,  one of the primary roles of the School Psychometrists and School Psychologist is the evaluation of students experiencing learning, behavioral or emotional difficulties to determine eligibility for special education services.  Assessments of bright learners are also conducted in order to determine eligibility for Gifted, as well as the evaluation of preschoolers to determine needed supports. Evaluation reports are produced by these diagnostic staff members. These reports include the results of all input received and assessments conducted as part of the comprehensive multidisciplinary evaluation process; specific recommendations regarding the student’s needs are the culmination of the comprehensive evaluation process.

  • Behavioral Support Services- Behavior support services are available to address the needs of students identified as having significant emotional and behavioral needs. Our ultimate goal is to facilitate the development of students' social and coping skills through positive behavioral supports and services designed to meet individual student's needs. The role of School Psychologists and Behavior Specialists (within the context of Behavior Support) is to provide assistance/support to administrators, staff members,  and teachers of students with disabilities (as well as those in the MTSS (TST) process) who demonstrate chronic and/or significant behavioral-related concerns.

  • Special Education Records and Data Management- The Diagnostic Services administrative assistant maintains a systematic filing system for all Special Education eligibility records and, upon written request, releases student information from these records to requesting individuals, agencies, etc. in accordance with FERPA guidelines and department procedures.

  • Nursing Services- Nursing services are provided for students in the Pascagoula-Gautier School District in order to appraise, protect, and promote health. According to the National Association of School Nurses, school nurses "facilitate positive student responses to normal development; promote health and safety; intervene with actual and potential health problems; provide case management services; and actively collaborate with others to build student and family capacity for adaptation, self-management, self-advocacy, and learning".
